Beautiful resort! Worst steak I have ever eaten
Pretentious decor but food is cafeteria quality. The restaurant was empty and rightly so. We chose it based on the Frommer review and wondered whether we were at a different restaurant. But it had the same "not so" comfortable black chairs so I guess it was the same place. The service was reasonable but then we were the only ones there. The wine list is enormous but boring. All in all a big disappointment. Dont waste your time. There are tons of great restaurants in Taos but this is not one of them.
This elegant restaurant with its dramatic decor is located in the El Monte Sagrado eco-resort, about one-third of a mile from the central plaza of Taos. Our party of three travelers was happy to find a quality restaurant that that was still serving dinner at 9:30 p.m. on a weeknight in June 2013. Although we were the last table of diners, the service was very pleasant and unhurried. After trying a prickly pear margarita (we've had better), we had Kessler calamari and a house salad as appetizers. For our entrees, we chose Colorado lamb chops with mashed potatoes, rainbow trout with capers and lemon butter and a lean but tasty bison steak. All our food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We paid about $120 for our dinners and a drink.
Amazing dinner! Chef Christina made a filet that literally cut like butter. Jalapeño bacon wrapped filet, genius idea! The daily pasta special was made with vegetables from their own garden and a pistachio pesto. Light and delicious. House made Baileys cheesecake was Devine. No detail was overlooked. Service impeccable, ambiance romantic and comfortable. One of the best meals we have EVER had!
The look of it is beautiful, a wonderful atmosphere, but terrible service. We ordered quick after being seated, but took 1hour 15 min. before getting our food. Took 30 min and asking a waiter if we could get some bread rolls and refills on water. Finally got some brown and serve rolls that were nearing burnt. Our food came, Elk was overcooked, potatoes undercooked. My plate of ribs among other plates in the party was lukewarm at best & blandly seasoned side of polenta. Certainly not the quality you'd expect for $30-45 entrées. Disappointed.
